What Is Medicare Supplement Plan M?

Medicare Supplement Plan M offers broad coverage similar to Plan G but with one key difference: it only covers 50% of the Part A deductible. In exchange, Plan M premiums are lower than Plan G.

Plan M is a middle-ground option that covers most Medicare cost-sharing comprehensively, with the exception of the Part A deductible. You're responsible for 50% of the Part A deductible ($1,736 in 2026), meaning you'd pay $868 per hospital admission. Plan M also does not cover Part B excess charges.

Plan M is less commonly offered than Plan G or Plan N, so you may have fewer carrier options. Before choosing Plan M, compare it carefully to Plan N - which has similar premium savings but different cost-sharing trade-offs.

Key Highlights

  • Covers Part B coinsurance in full - no copays for outpatient services
  • Covers skilled nursing facility coinsurance
  • Includes foreign travel emergency coverage
  • Only pays 50% of the Part A deductible
