What Is Medicare Supplement Plan D?

Medicare Supplement Plan D provides solid coverage for hospital and skilled nursing facility costs, along with foreign travel emergency benefits. It covers the Part A deductible in full but does not cover the Part B deductible or Part B excess charges.

Plan D is a mid-tier Medigap option that covers most major Medicare cost-sharing except the Part B deductible and excess charges. It's available to all new Medicare enrollees and offers lower premiums than Plan G.

While Plan D is a legitimate option, it's less commonly offered than Plan G or Plan N. If you're considering Plan D, it's worth also comparing Plan N - which has similar cost-sharing but is more widely available and often more competitively priced.
