Medicare Costs 2025

More than 66 million Americans rely on Medicare for health coverage, and costs change year to year. In 2025, several Medicare costs increased. Here, we review key changes to Medicare premiums and deductibles that took effect in 2025. For current 2026 figures, see our Medicare Costs 2026 post.

A Quick Note on Medicare Costs

Medicare has certain standard costs that apply to all enrollees. But ultimately, your costs depend on the specific coverage you choose and, in some cases, your income. Use this summary as a reference for 2025 Medicare costs.

Medicare Part A

Most enrollees don't pay a premium for Medicare Part A, which covers inpatient hospital care. Enrollees with 40 or more quarters of creditable coverage get Part A for $0 per month.

If you had at least 30 quarters of coverage, your monthly Medicare Part A premium in 2025 was $285. If you had fewer than 30 quarters of coverage, your monthly Medicare Part A premium in 2025 was $518.

The Medicare Part A deductible in 2025 was $1,676 per inpatient hospital stay, covering the first 60 days of care. Beyond that, the daily coinsurance rate was $419 for days 61–90, and $838 per day for lifetime reserve days. A Medigap plan could help cover these costs.

Medicare Part B

The standard monthly Medicare Part B premium in 2025 was $185. Higher earners were subject to an IRMAA surcharge based on their 2023 modified adjusted gross income. IRMAA applied to individuals earning over $106,000 and joint filers earning over $212,000.

The Medicare Part B deductible in 2025 was $257 (up from $240 in 2024).

Medicare Part C

Medicare Advantage plans set their own monthly premiums, with many charging $0 beyond the Part B premium. The Medicare Part C in-network MOOP for 2025 was $9,350. For combined in- and out-of-network spending, the limit was $14,000.

Medicare Part D

The average monthly Medicare Part D premium in 2025 was $46.50. The maximum Medicare Part D deductible in 2025 was $590. In 2025, the out-of-pocket cap before catastrophic coverage was $2,000.
