Availability Notice: High Deductible Medicare Supplement Plan F is only available to people who were eligible for Medicare before January 1, 2020. If you became eligible after that date, consider Plan G instead.

What Is High Deductible Medicare Supplement Plan F?

High Deductible Plan F (HD-F) offers the same comprehensive coverage as standard Plan F - including the Part B deductible - but requires you to pay a deductible ($2,950 in 2026) before coverage begins. Like Plan F, HD-F is only available to people who were eligible for Medicare before January 1, 2020.

HD-F is essentially Plan F with a high deductible in exchange for lower premiums. Once you've paid the $2,950 deductible, HD-F covers 100% of Medicare-approved costs - including the Part B deductible and excess charges.

For people currently on standard Plan F with high premiums, HD-F can offer significant savings. The premium difference between standard Plan F and HD-F is often $100–$150/month, which can easily exceed the deductible in years with minimal healthcare use.

Key Highlights

  • Same coverage as Plan F - including Part B deductible - after plan deductible
  • Annual deductible: $2,950 in 2026
  • Premiums typically 60–75% lower than standard Plan F
  • Only available to those eligible for Medicare before January 1, 2020
  • Covers Part B excess charges (after deductible)
